Hi my name is Walter i was born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the last time i was there was in 1992 i intend to go there again next year God willing,it is one of the nicest places on Earth to visit. Please excuse my spelling. It's been a long time since I was in the Garmisch area. While serving in the USAF, I had occasion to visit your area with my wife, sometime in 1982 (I think.) Told you its been a long time. We dearly loved it. We attended one of the local bierfests and had a great time. Our hotel room had a great view of the Zugspitz. We have both wanted (finances permitting) to return to Germany one day for a visit, both to Bavaria and Berlin where I was stationed for 3.5 years. Hello there! I visited Stutggart several years ago and was very impressed by how clean the german people are and how caring they are about putting flower boxes everywhere. Howdy! I work for the worlds #1 chip maker that has a sales office outside of Munich. I've been to Munich only 2 times, Once in March (very cold), and Once in May (very green, beautiful). I'm planning another trip next March. I would like to know of castles that I can visit by taking the train, only half day trips. Some of my fondest memories are those of when I was a small girl in Germany, my father was in the USArmy and we were stationed in Fulda and in Darmstadt. Wir sind eine kleine Abteilung in der Helvetia Patria Versicherungen (Qualität und Organisation,9 Personen). Wir beabsichtigen am 24./25. Okt. einen Aufenthalt in München zu machen. Am Freitagnachmittag möchten wir gerne zB. eine Betriebsbesichtigung machen, die irgendwas mit unserer täglichen Tätigkeit zu tun hat (wir dachten dabei an die BMW-Werke, die hohe Qualitätanforderungen zu erfüllen haben). Leider ist dies nicht mäglich, das BMW am Umbauen ist. Ich stelle mir vor, dass die Bavaria- Filmstudios für ihre Stunt-Vorführungen ebenfalls ein hohes Mass an Qualität brauchen. Gibt es dort neben den normalen Vorführungen eventuell auch 'Backstage-Führungen' ?
Oder können Sie uns etwas anderes vorschlagen? Obwohl meine Frau und ich öfters in München sind, kommt mir sonst nichts mehr in den Sinn. Falls Sie mir in dieser Frage helfen könnten, wäre ich dankbar. Herzlichen Gruss. Peter Roth

We stayed in Garmiche and traveled to many castles and even took a bus tour to a monastery where they made fabulous liquors. My grandparents came from two towns in Bavaria. I would like to know more about these towns. They are Nabburg, ans Schwartzenfeld. They came to the US in 1892, and all I know about these towns is what they were like over a century ago. My grandfather came from Nabburg, his name was Michael Hanauer. Your Web site is the best I've seen on Germany! We're heading to Germany later this summer - I'm finding a lot of useful info on your site(s). One suggestion, please - everything is oriented by City/Stadt - people like us would find it useful to have a guide to events, shows, etc. organized primarily by date. This would save a lot of time browsing! I do have a question....In your section on Herrenchiemsee you state that it takes 1/2 hour to light ALL the candles. The woman that gave the tour of Herrenchiemsee said that in Ludwigs time it took 30 people 30 minutes just to light all the candles in the Hall of Mirrors. This information on Bavaria is very interesting. I enjoy reading as much informaion as I can about Germany. My great-great-grandparents immigrated to the US in the 1850's from Frankfort I believe. The last name is Schmoe, but that is the American spelling, I doubt if that is the correct German spelling. I also have a friend in Unterhaching that I have been writing to since 1985, we haven't met yet, but I hope to one day go to Unterhaching and meet her, and when I do this information will be very useful!

Hello from Australia My wife and I will be arriving in Munich at 6 pm on a Tuesday. We want to start our trip by touring around the southern Bavarian /alps region. My question is can someone recommend a place to stay the first night keeping in mind we will be pretty tired after 14 hours flying and dont want to drive more than about an hour and not into any city traffic. My wife and I have been to Munich and Bavaria 3 times since 1984 and will be spending a week there in September of this year (1997). Munich is a great city and we enjoy all facets of the city, and that certainly includes the food. We have especially enjoyed the shows at Platzl am Platzl. My wife and I have been to Munich three times over the last 17 years, the first time was on our honeymoon. We went to Oktoberfest in 93 & 95. We returned on openning day to find the same group(two tables) sitting just how we meet them in 1993. From there we toured Switzerland and we're traveling east toward Wein and detoured back to Munich for closing day of Oktoberfest. By now you can guess that we really like beer and Oktoberfest!
