Business
The Bavarian business community is well known for its strength and diversity. Breweries have traditionally dominated the city's business and real estate activities, but such giants as Siemens have attracted many highly professional individuals to form together with American and Japanese specialists the "Silicon Valley" of Germany. Since Bavaria is far less densely populated than other parts of Germany (e.g. the Ruhrgebiet) and the Alps offer extraordinary vacation sites, national and international tourism has become a major player. Munich, home of BMW motorcars, is considered a prosperous city, real estate leases are among the most expensive in Germany, pushing many businesses and individuals into the surrounding cities and villages connected by a commuter train system covering a radius of approx. 40 kilometers around Munich.
