Everyone in Munich is proud of being among
the 17 cities in the world that hosted the summer Olympic games ! In
the early seventies the "games" were supposed to take place in an
ultra- modern setting not bearing any resemblance with the stadium
used by Hitler for the "farce" version of the '36 games in Berlin. The
Olympic park in Munich is still very active today, pool, concert hall,
and football stadium are constantly in use. Quite unimaginable are the
huge tents that cover most of the area, 8 architects, 550 engineers,
15000 craftsmen and 300 miles of steel cables. The sun's rays and the
clouds' shadows are reflected in the thousands of square plates that
form the tents, a fascinating effect when some turn golden. Among the
people wearing their "sport suits" one can feel the vibrations coming
from Munich's leading soccer club, the FC Bayern (13 times German
Master, 8 times German Cup, 2 times German Cup), the pounding and
whistling that can be heared miles away when a game is played. But
soccer is not the only game in town, bicycle riding must have become
the number one sport recently. As soon as the sun breaks through
people dash out and jump on their bicycles to cross the
Englishartenor follow the banks of the Isar to some nearby
lakes. The courageous ones try
bunjee jumping or hang gliding ...
