Everyone in Munich is proud of being among the 17 cities in the world that hosted the summer Olympic games ! In the early seventies the "games" were supposed to take place in an ultra- modern setting not bearing any resemblance with the stadium used by Hitler for the "farce" version of the '36 games in Berlin. The Olympic park in Munich is still very active today, pool, concert hall, and football stadium are constantly in use. Quite unimaginable are the huge tents that cover most of the area, 8 architects, 550 engineers, 15000 craftsmen and 300 miles of steel cables. The sun's rays and the clouds' shadows are reflected in the thousands of square plates that form the tents, a fascinating effect when some turn golden. Among the people wearing their "sport suits" one can feel the vibrations coming from Munich's leading soccer club, the FC Bayern (13 times German Master, 8 times German Cup, 2 times German Cup), the pounding and whistling that can be heared miles away when a game is played. But soccer is not the only game in town, bicycle riding must have become the number one sport recently. As soon as the sun breaks through people dash out and jump on their bicycles to cross the Englishartenor follow the banks of the Isar to some nearby lakes.
