Taking a Bicycle Ride

Prerequisites

One of the most successful ways of really exploring this city and to meet people is on a bicycle. More than 800 miles of special bike trails await you and most boulevards have bicycle paths on which you can ride without worrying all the time of being run over by your worst enemy, the car. No need to bring one along - a bike of course -, almost every city district has at least one bike shop that also rents. Most city sights can be reached within 20 minutes or less, you can drive into zones closed off to car traffic, you won't ever have a parking problem and you can enjoy food and drinks. For people used to cars for basic transportation this might seem strange at the beginning, but once you experienced the freedom you wouldn't want to miss it again. For those who like to discover the outskirts of Munich and the beautiful lakes in the southern parts of bavaria, there is the rapid train system (MVV) that allows you to take your bicycle along.
1,2,3 and off you go !!!

Final rundown on your personal check list, brakes, air pump, a patch kit, light bulbs and working gear shifter, sorry but you also need a map of the city. Eventhough Munich followed the historical circular expansion type you can easily stay oriented by knowing that the major arteries run either parallel or perpendicular to the Isar (Munich's main river). If you like to discover in company of others Radius Touristik organizes traditional city bicycle tours for around DM 50 per person.
