Flee Markets

Auer Dult - an outdoors "meadow mart"
Since 1756 three times a year mobile merchants, antique dealers and migrating sales people, gather under the Mariahilf (Maria-help) church to display and sell their wares. Kids can jump on their favorite mardi gras rides and enjoy cotton candy and toasted almonds while father and mother dig into a juicy Currywurst or Fischsemmel (fish sandwich). Everything from bavarian blue china to the latest in "chop" technology can be found. Though try aiming for the real classics with decades of fast selling experience like the billige Jakob ("inexpensive Jack") in the far back. Amazing how he puts together instant improvised "specials", you just wanted to look and see but you end up buying 10 pairs of shoe laces, a small purse and hand lotion for DM 10, how could you resist.

Defunct airport Riem - the largest indoor flea market

Busy travelers no more - busy bargain hunters yes. Munich's former airport is now hosting many different types of events, flea markets, annual festivals, gigantic bubble parties, techno-rave though the night. So off you go on a journey to visit past gadgets and trinkets, to a place where individuals can sell their private items (garage sales among other things are not allowed). Successful buying techniques remain the same, early risers get the first choice. Sellers rent by the foot (DM 5 for 3 feet) with lots of room to spare (360,000 sqf).
