Versailles à la King of Bavaria

A small island in the Chiemsee, approx. 60 miles south-east of Munich, inspired King Ludwig as a setting for a castle that was supposed to challenge Versailles (near Paris). It took several intense study tours to France visiting the edifices contracted by King Louis XIV ( the famous "Sun King") before the plans were laid out. The architect of Linderhof, Georg Dollman, was put in charge of erecting one more phantasy of the King of Bavaria.

Beautiful maiden lie leisurely alongside monumental dragon decorated fountains. An interesting sight behind the scenes. The second stairway to the upper floor (the first one can be seen in the top most picture) before any detailing could be applied. Right next to it a 1.5 ton chandelier.
