Bus Bavaria - Day Trips

Neuschwanstein

All odds were in our (and your) favor, the weather, the spare time and courage to bring you these photos taken on this beautiful sunny weekend. At the same time we found an ingenious way to enjoy such a classic tour many times more often by choosing a breath taking route up the rock that houses the castle.

We did not follow the many bus tours that fight for reserved parking spaces near the town of Schwangau beneath the northern facade. A very picturesque walk up the roaring river that flows behind the castle can be reached from the base station of the nearby furnicular.

Along narrow walkways hammered into the bedrock and up a small gorge you can reach the castle in quite a splendid and adventurous way. The "Marienbruecke" saw many visitors from all corners of the world, it is the ideal spot to have your picture taken with Ludwig's castle in the background.

Definetely quite a narrow passage for the few of us that are not scared of heights. Between solid looking wooden planks one can see the water rushing by approx. 300 feet below. But rewards are certain, a traditionally clothed and homegrown Bavarian with a keen sense for business gladly offers his time to become part of your photographic memories together with this quite unusual backdrop.

Should you be daring to try to find the "hidden" path up the castle keep a lookout for a little white "onion-top-chapel" alongside the main road leading to the parking lots and turn left right after you pass it.
